Happy New Year!
Being a Bike Geek has its advantages. Since all of the information from my rides is captured on my Garmin Edge GPS cycling computer and uploaded to Motionbased.com, it takes just a few seconds to see what my total 2007 stats turned out to be.Here are the numbers!
I cycled 1,072.15 miles and climbed a total of 56, 958 feet. Another way to look at those numbers are that I cycled almost the distance from San Antonio, TX to Flagstaff, AZ and climbed a distance almost twice the size of Mount Everest.
Most importantly, I cycled 68 miles more than I did in 2006. That's especially significant to me since a) I did not participate in the 150 mile Valero MS150 and b) welcomed the addition of a beautiful daughter who rightfully required that I take several weeks off from cycling to give her much deserved care and attention.
So, as I look forward to 2008 I do so with a smile and much encouragement.
Things I'm excited about for 2008:
- My wife Shannon will be joining me on some rides as the newest "Team Felt" member!
- My brother-in-law David continues to cycle with me and improve his fitness. He has set his eyes on doing the Valero MS150 and other sponsored rides in 2008 and we're working towards that goal.
- My nephew Tanner has joined us on some rides and I hope that will become a more frequent event. My niece Kendal got a bike for Christmas.
- My Dad will hopefully be returning to cycling as he recovers from some knee issues. I'm sure his 2007 totals are quite impressive. It was a strong year for him.
- I once again look forward to many fun miles with my cycling buddies - Bill, Joel, Marco, and Jennifer.
